10. Edition Thonet Tagliabue
This experimental catalog explores the tactile and visual identity of THONET’s Tubular chair collection, celebrating the brand’s enduring legacy of design innovation. The project reimagines the traditional furniture catalog as a sensory object, where materiality and paper selection become integral to the storytelling process.
The Tubular chairs of THONET represent a milestone in 20th-century design, merging industrial precision with sculptural elegance. The catalog seeks to capture this duality through a material-driven approach, transforming documentation into experience. Each chair is presented as a standalone study across dedicated pages, photographed to emphasize its form, light, and tactile detail.
Different types of paper, matte, gloss, textured, and translucent, are used to evoke the chair’s surface qualities, such as metal sheen, woven caning, or leather upholstery. The sequencing of these paper types creates a rhythm that mirrors THONET’s craftsmanship: technical yet sensuous, minimal yet expressive.
