12. Azazel Typeface
This project is a hands-on study in type design, focusing on the process of creating a complete font from initial sketches to stylistic refinement. The goal was to understand letterforms through calligraphy and analog drawing techniques before translating them into a cohesive digital typeface.
Process & Methodology
Calligraphy Practice:
Using traditional calligraphy tools, we explored the shapes and dynamics of individual letters, developing a deep understanding of stroke, proportion, and rhythm.
Character Selection:
Multiple versions of each letter were drawn, then analyzed to select the most expressive and legible form for the final alphabet.Style Development:
Serifs and additional stylistic features were designed to define the font’s character and create a consistent, recognizable typeface.
The study emphasized observation, experimentation, and iterative refinement, laying the foundation for type design workflows.
